Launch of Partnership Between Irish Aid and UN Women/OHCHR

Writer: yowpsudorgyowpsudorg

For every ten women in Kenya aged 15-49, five have suffered violence in one form or another.

As Kenya prepares to go into elections next year, UN Women and the Embassy of Ireland launched a project to prevent violence against women in elections. The Irish Aid-funded project complements ongoing efforts by the Government of Kenya and other partners.

This new partnership between Irish Aid and UN Women/OHCHR will target regions of the country that are known to have experienced election violence in the past. The project will involve Human Rights Defenders, Kenya Civil Society as well as independent constitutional bodies and governance entities in the human rights and justice sector. In complementarity to Italian funded efforts, the Embassy will provide an initial €200k to deepen this work.
