YOWPSUD team convened for a focused Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) workshop aimed at strengthening internal capacity and enhancing the effectiveness of its community-based interventions. The session brought together staff and key implementers to build practical knowledge and skills essential for navigating the complex environments in which Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) work takes place.
As YOWPSUD continues to expand its footprint across communities, the need to prioritize staff safety and preparedness has become increasingly critical. The workshop created a space for reflection, learning, and alignment on best practices related to risk awareness, personal safety, and organizational protocols. Participants engaged in discussions around real-life scenarios, identifying potential threats and exploring strategies to mitigate risks while maintaining trust and meaningful engagement within communities.
A key focus of the training was ensuring that all staff understand the intersection between safety and effective PCVE implementation. Working in environments affected by vulnerability, marginalization, and evolving security dynamics requires not only technical expertise but also heightened awareness and responsiveness. By equipping its team with the right tools and knowledge, YOWPSUD is reinforcing its commitment to responsible programming that safeguards both staff and the communities they serve.
The workshop also emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining safety standards. Through shared experiences and collaborative learning, team members strengthened their ability to support one another and uphold organizational values in the field.
This initiative marks a significant step in YOWPSUD’s ongoing efforts to build a resilient and well-prepared team. As the organization continues its PCVE work, investing in staff capacity remains central to delivering impactful, ethical, and sustainable interventions at the community level.
