Call for registration: The Mic: Africa Season 2

Well-established African rappers, DJs, street dancers, spoken-word poets and aerosol graffiti artists are encouraged to register for a chance to compete in the second edition of pan-African hip hop competition The Mic: Africa, which will take place on the Take Back the Mic digital platform

Season 1 winner Fecko.

The Mic: Africa is associated with Take Back the Mic: The World Cup of Hip Hop, a global competition seeking to discover and promote rappers around the world. The contest first launched in Kingston, Jamaica, and has so far been held in Medellin, Colombia, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Nigerian rapper Fecko was crowned the winner in the first season of the African edition, which was held between July and December 2020.

“I would encourage independent artists to participate in The Mic: Africa because it’s an amazing platform that promotes your artistry and community to the rest of the world,” Fecko told Music In Africa.

“After the win, I appeared on Times Square in New York, won the People’s Telly Awards, gave back to my community and invested in my music. The exposure allowed me the opportunity to network with some of the country champions like David Kau and MI Abaga. I’m also releasing an EP soon that features Angelika Belle – a fantastic singer that I met during the show. It’s been an amazing journey so far.

According to the organizers, 10 applicants will be shortlisted to compete for a chance to receive the golden mic trophy and a cash prize.
