The IGAD Centre of Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (ICEPCVE) will officially launch the Revised IGAD Regional Strategy for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism on April 29, 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening regional cooperation to address evolving threats of violent extremism across the IGAD region. The revised strategy reflects a renewed commitment to prevention, resilience, human security, and inclusive approaches that place communities, youth, and women at the center of peacebuilding efforts.

The launch comes at a critical time when addressing root causes such as exclusion, inequality, poor governance, and socio-economic vulnerabilities remains essential to sustainable prevention. The revised framework is expected to guide coordinated action among governments, civil society, and regional actors while promoting localized and community-driven responses.

This milestone resonates with ongoing peacebuilding and prevention efforts across the region, including initiatives advancing women and youth leadership, social cohesion, advocacy, and community resilience. It also reinforces the importance of collaborative regional frameworks that move beyond security responses toward long-term, preventive solutions for lasting peace and stability.
