Inclusive Governance

Greater citizen engagement, representation and inclusion are a key priority issues by the National and County Governments. This is evidenced by the prioritisation and development of the Public Participation policies. Likewise, there are ongoing discussions around and calls for a more robust and inclusive policy and legal framework through systematic legislative reform to foster the active participation of all citizens, including groups such as women, youth and persons with disabilities that are traditionally under-represented in governance and economic decision making. Meaningful public consultation and participation strengthens the quality, relevance and responsiveness of policy and legislation, and, in turn, prospects of effective enforcement and implementation.

YOWPSUD focusses on promoting a more conducive space for citizens and structurally marginalized groups to engage on policy discussions around inclusion issues and rights. Our programmes partner with devolution actors, organized groups representing typically excluded populations in governance processes depending on the context of specific counties. i.e. Persons with Disability, women, youth, ethnic minorities, and those living in extreme poverty.

Such groups include grassroots civil society organizations and county special interest caucuses where appropriate. Ensuring they are more knowledgeable on public accountability tools and participation processes, and how to effectively engage with duty bearers to influence legislation and public policies around peace and security, GBV and mental health, climate change and livelihoods.
