Climate Change & Food Security
In seeking to address climate change, YOWPSUD support efforts to strengthen the institutional and human capacities of Counties to accelerate implementation policies and financing frameworks that are responsive to locally shaped climate solutions. Capacity strengthening is carried out through peer to peer and experiential learning, research and policy dialogue and joint climate events. Our programmes focusses on empowering citizens and local environmental organizations to effectively collaborate, participate in climate action prioritization and implementation, through, inter alia, education and public awareness, training, public participation, and public access to information. we partner with multi-stakeholder groups that mobilize and empower communities on climate actions at county level to create opportunities for co-creation and scaling of locally – led climate solutions through use of technology and other innovative approaches and tools.

Drawing on the Elnino Recovery and Response and Resilience Building, YOWPSUD’s will expand its work around Community-based Disaster-risk reduction (DRR) and Adaptation (CbA) to protect communities from climatic shocks. Partnerships and collaborations will be developed at all levels, with communities, civil society, local and national governments, and regional and international organizations ensuring that marginalized communities’ needs and capacities are considered in how people mitigate risk, prepare for, react to and recover from disasters and adapt to long-term climate trends.
For Sustainable Food Security Programme, YOWPSUD will focus on 1) increasing supply of and access to affordable and healthy food provided by food actors. This will be through supporting growth of sustainable food enterprises at all levels in the value chain and active engagement of producers, private sector and governments in critical food production regions, the aim will be to ensure that more food will be produced and supplied in a way that respects people (health, incomes, jobs) and nature (ecosystems). 2) Improving food policies adopted by national and county governments and private sector by advocating for a more inclusive and transparent local and national sustainable food policies and programs are put in place that will allow especially low-income consumers to access sustainable food.
